On Saturday 16th September 2006 we held a Heritage Day when 20 community groups and other individuals presented an exhibition of all kinds of things showing the heritage of Whiston. Everyone who took part, or who came as visitors, were able to the view the exhibits and swap stories and ask questions.
There were exhibits from the churches, Whiston Juniors Football Club, Whiston Hospital, the history societies, the Whiston and District Horticultural Society and many others.
The biggest exhibit was a Crosville Bus from Pacific Road Transport Museum in Birkenhead. (Pictured above). They were also able to settle an argument about the route of the H13.
The most moving exhibit was a wall of remembrance with information about those named on the Town War Memorial at St Nicholas Church. This was put together by Kath Donaldson. People who heard about the day on Radio Merseyside had travelled back from as far as Warrington to find out about their late father who had been a dairyman in the town.
Entrance was free but we raised £100 for the Mayor’s Charity Fund from the sale of tea and cakes in the Whiston NAAFI! We learnt that there is a great deal of history in this town of ours. Everyone said “We must do this again sometime”
Thank you to all who took part in anyway - Whiston Town Mayor Councillor M Lane and Mayoress Mrs R Lane

This blog has been reserved for Whiston Town Council.
